WHAT’S IT MADE UP OF?
- Epidermis (Outer layer).
2. Dermis (Inner layer).
WHAT IS IT?
The largest organ in the body. An excretory organ (removes waste such as salt and water).
EPIDERMIS?
Outer layer. Made up of dead cells. Malphighian layer is inside, contains a pigment that protects our skin from the sun.
DERMIS?
The inner layer. Contains: The sweat glands (Removes salt and water,sweat, from the blood through pores).
Blood vessels (Veins and arteries that supply the veins with oxygen and nutrients).
Nerves (Allow us to feel sensations: pain, hot and cold).
Oil glands (Produce oil to moisten the skin).
Hairs (There to keep the body warm).
Fat cells (Insulate the body).
FUNCTIONS OF SKIN?
Removes sweat (Water and salt) from the body through pores, maintains body temperature (37°c), protects viral organs from disease and the sun (malphighian layer), feels sensation and produces vitamin d.
HOW TO MAINTAIN HEALTHY SKIN
Avoid over-exposure to the sun. Avoid sore products. Wash daily. Change underwear each day. Get lots of sleep. Eat healthily.
Wash hands regularily. Cleanse and moisturise face.
Don’t touch spots. Avoid cigarettes and alcahol.
