A
- block of tests done together
- investigates aspects of bacterial metabolism
- important in analysis of water (checks for presence of Escherichia ➡ fecal contamination / likelihood of pathogens)

{purpose}
A
- detect formation of indole
- differentiate members of family of Enterobacteriaceae (especially E. coli from Enterobacter & Klebsiella)

A
- positive= layer of Kovac’s reagent will almost immediately turn red (rosindole)
- negative= green; green if reagent gets mixed up (failed test)
