Skill classification Flashcards
what are the six skill continua
- difficulty
- environment
- pacing
- muscular involvement
- continuity
- organisation
what’s in the environment continuum
open = affecting by sporting environment. Performer has to make decisions in response to surroundings
closed = less decision making as environment is predictable
what’s in the pacing continuum
self paced = at the control of the performer and rate of execution is decided before
externally paced = controlled by factors out of control by the performer who may have to react to external conditions
what’s in the muscular involvement continuum
fine = small, delicate muscle movements
gross = large muscle groups
what’s in the continuity continuum
discrete = short time span and clear beginning and end
serial = several discrete elements put together
continuous = no clear beginning or end
what’s in the organisation continuum
low organised skill = can be broken down into parts
highly organised skill = hard to break down since its fast in its execution
what’s in the difficulty continuum
complex = involves high levels of decision making and has a large cognitive or thinking element to it
simple = limited information processing skill has a smaller cognitive element
what are the two elements of a skill
cognitive part =
what are the two elements of a skill
cognitive part = skill requires thought before action
motor part = requires control and efficient movement
skills are…
learned = practising of skills and abilities
consistent = same level each time
goal directed = an aim in mind
aesthetic = looks good
controlled = performer is in charge
efficient and smooth = not wasting energy and flows
