skill,ability, continnum Flashcards
What is a skill?
A learned, coordinated, goal-directed action that is consistently successful and efficient.
What is an ability?
An innate, stable trait that underpins the potential to learn skills (e.g., balance, reaction time).
What is a psychomotor ability?
The individual’s ability to consciously make movements
successful e.g. curling/finessing the ball into the top corner of
a goal.
what is gross motor ability?
are generally related to athletic and gross physical performance
i.e. physical fitness abilities.
-They require large muscle movements, whole body or limbs.
What is the open–closed skill continuum?
Open skills: Affected by environment (e.g., pass in rugby).
Closed skills: Performed in a stable environment (e.g., free throw in basketball).
What is the muscular involvement skill continuum?
Gross skills: Large muscle movements (e.g., sprinting).
Fine skills: Small, precise movements (e.g., snooker shot).
What is the pacing skill continuum?
Internally : Performer controls the start and speed (e.g., golf swing).
Externally paced: Environment controls timing (e.g., receiving a serve).
What is the continuity continuum?
Discrete: Clear start and end (e.g., penalty kick).
Continuous: No clear start/end (e.g., cycling).
What is the environmental influence continuum?
Open: Many variables affecting
Closed: Not many variables affecting
What is the difficulty continuum?
Simple: Few decisions made
Complex: Many decisions
What is the organisation continuum?
Low: Not many subroutines needed
High: Lots of subroutines
