Maslow VS Locke and Latham’s

Similarities
-Improving the skills of employees (Maslow’s self-actualisation + L&L’s task complexity to develop the skills of staff)
-Sense of achievement (Maslow’s esteem + L&L’s task complexity) where if a person achieves a goal, they can get recognition for that achievement

Differences
-Fundamental basis: Maslow concentrates on internal needs, while L&L concentrates on the setting of goals that are external to the employee
-Maslow - employees focusing on one level at a time WHEREAS L&L - multiple principles that interrelate towards one goal

-Strong relationships motivates & improves performance (Maslow’s social need + L&N’s bond)

Differences
-Maslow’s - one focus according to the employee’s stage WHEREAS L&N’s drives must occur simultaneously
-Maslow’s theory, need no longer serve to motivate ones satisfied WHEREAS L&N’s four drives continually motivate
