Active Compression Test
Purpose of Test: To test for the presence of a labral tear or acromioclavicular lesion.
Anterior Apprehension Test
Purpose of Test: To assess for anterior instability of the glenohumeral joint capsule.
Biceps Load Test II
Purpose of Test: To test for the presence of glenohumeral labral tears (SLAP lesion).
Drop Arm Sign
Purpose of Test: To test for the presence of a full-thickness rotator cuff tear.
External Rotation Lag Sign (ERLS)
Purpose of Test: To test for the presence of isolated full thickness rotator cuff tears.
Hawkins-Kennedy Impingement Sign
Purpose of Test: To test for subacromial impingement.
Horizontal Adduction Test
Purpose of Test: To test for the presence of AC joint dysfunction or subacromial impingement.
Internal Rotation Lag Sign
Purpose: To test for the presence of a subscapularis tendon tear.
Jobe Sign
Purpose: Aid in diagnosing rotator cuff tears or subacromial impingement.
Ludington’s Test
Purpose: To test for a biceps tendon rupture.
Neer Test
Purpose of Test: To test for the presence of subacromial impingement.
The Painful Arc Sign
Purpose of Test: To test for the presence of subacromial impingement.
Pronated Load Test
Purpose: To identify individuals with a SLAP lesion.
Speed’s Test
Purpose of Test: To assess the integrity of biceps tendon or labrum.
Sulcus Sign
Purpose: To Test for the presence of shoulder instability.
Adson’s Test
Purpose of Test: Test for the presence of Thoracic Outlet syndrome, specifically compression between the Anterior and Middle Scalene Muscles.
Roos Test (EAST Test)
Purpose of Test: To test for the presence of neural or vascular compromise in the thoracic outlet.
Yergason’s Test
Purpose of Test: A provocative test that assesses for long head of the biceps tendon pathology and SLAP lesions.
