Plantarflexion (note knee position difference for gastroc vs soleus focus)
M: Gastrocnemius, Soleus
G:
- Standing on single leg with knee (slightly flexed
to 20 degrees - soleus) or (in extension - gastrocnemius)
- Only one hand on wall/supporting surface or
assistance from therapist for balance only
GE: Prone
S: Hip hiking
Plantarflexion MMT Grades
Grade:
5: 25 heel raises with full ROM, proper alignment, and balance, maintaining knee (slightly flexed to 20 degrees - soleus) or (in extension - gastrocnemius)
4: 2 - 24 heel raises with full ROM, proper alignment, and balance, maintaining knee (slightly flexed to 20 degrees - soleus) or (in extension - gastrocnemius)
3: Able to hold body weight once in a heel up position but unable to raise body weight from a neutral position more than ONE time
2: Holds test position agains maximal resistance
1: Able to move through partial ROM
0: No discernable palpable contraction
Dorsiflexion
M: Tibalis Anterior
G: Sitting
GE: Supine
S: Hip rotation, hip flexion
Subtalar Inversion
M: Tibalis Posterior
G: Supine, test foot is over the edge of table
GE: Sidelying, test foot is over the edge of table
S: Hip rotation
Subtalar Eversion
M: Peroneus Longus, Brevis
G: Supine
GE: Sidelying
S: Hip rotation
MTP Flexion
M: Lumbricals, FHB
G: Supine
MTP - IP Extension
M: EDL, EDB
