the body’s immune system attacks self antigens mistaken for foreign antigens/ 75% of ptn with GBS have a history of infection 1-3 weeks before / symmetric, ascending weakness (hours-days) that typically begins in the lower extremities and moves upward / The best initial test is LP / the most accurate test is EMG / 85% will recover completely / the only treatment is plasmapheresis & IV immunoglobulin
