These have the best prognosis but streptococcus, listeria & cryptococcus have bad prognosis

Cryptococcal meningitis is the most common in AIDS PTN

Chloride
A.what do you expect the cell count to be on CSF sample for ptn with bacterial meningitis?
Very high
Q. Ptn was found to have nuchal rigidity with fever = meningitis. What the best antibiotic that can be given immediately even before results of LP?
Ceftriaxone ( 3rd generation cephalosporins) because it can cross the CSF
Q. What are the contraindication to perform LP?
- ⬆️ intracranial pressure
- Mass lesion
- Hemorrhagic diathesis
- occlusion of the venous sinus
- Infection at the LP site
