SG 10.1 Flashcards
Define Niche
Biotic and Abiotic resources used by a organism, what, when, where, and how it uses the,
Define Realized Niche
The niche of an organism that came to pass, aka its actual results
Define Fundamental Niche
The niche of an organism that was made upon predictions, an estimate of what it will be per se
Define Mutialism
A symbiotic relationship in which 2 different species interact with one another and benefit from each other
Define Commensalism
A symbiotic relationship between 2 different species interact and one benefits while the other one neither loses nor gains anything
Define Parasitism
A symbiotic relationship between 2 different species interacting in which one will benefit at the expense of the other, does not necessarily need to kill them, just hurt them per se
Define Predation
An animal that hunts another animal both for food and in that process bringing down the population of the prey which will impact the environment in a good way
Define Hervibory
Animal that eats mostly plants, because something like a deer will still on occasion eat a rabbit or a squirrel or something for nutrients it can’t get from plants
Define facultative
A relationship in which 2 organisms reside with one another but it is not necessarily crucially required
Define obligatory
Instance in which different species rely on one another for survival
What is likely to happen if the niches of two species overlap a little? Overlap a lot?
There is likely to be some competition between the niches. If there is a lot there will be a big impact among the niches, competition and territorial behavior
How can niche partitioning increase the biodiversity of a community? What are some ways that species can partition their niches?
It can allow more than just one species to be able to have access to resources. Wolves and ravens, ravens will spot animals, and the wolves hunt them, then they both share the bounty
