What is the cause of septic bursitis?
Trauma to the skin
What is the patho of septic bursitis?
Direct inoculation through the skin
- Rarely from cellulitis or hematogenous seeding
What is the clinical presentaion of septic bursitis?
Redness
Warmth
Swelling
Typically don’t see ROM restriction
What is used to diagnosse septic bursitis?
X ray
- R/O
Aspiration
- Acute vs Chronic
What are important facts about acute aspiration of septic bursitis?
80%- S. aureus
β-hemolytic strep
Aerobic G(-) bacilli:
- E.coli
- C. jejuni
- Pseudomonas
What are important facts about chronic aspiration of septic bursitis?
- *Think systemic infection**
- B. abortus
- M. tuberculosis
- Fungus
What is the outpatient treatment of septic arthritis?
Antibiotics
- Penicillin or 1st generation cephalosporin
- MRSA add- tri/sulfa
PCN allergy
- Clindamycin or linezolid
What is the inpatient treatment of septic arthritis?
IV
- Nafcillin
- Oxacillin
- Cefazolin
MRSA
- Add Vancomycin
- Daptomycin
- Linezolid
