How to diagnose sepsis?
History of immunosuppressive disorders and physical exam
What are advanced signs of sepsis?
Cyanosis, petechial or purpuric rashes, mottled or ashen appearance
How often do we recalculate risk of sepsis in those of high risk?
Every 30 mins
How often do we recalculate risk of sepsis in those of moderate risk?
Every hour
How often do we recalculate risk of sepsis in those of low risk?
Every 4-6 hours
Step 1 management
Ensure senior clinician attends.
Step 2 management
Oxygen if required
Step 3 management
IV and take bloods for analysis
Step 4 management
Give IV antibiotics (broad spectrum) maximum dose
Step 5 management
Give IV fluids
Step 6 management
Monitor
