Breast Cancer Flashcards
We normally do US and Mammography yes, but what do we for women of high risk and of genetic disposition
MRI
In FNAC of the breast mass, what do we do if we can’t feel the mass
We guide the FNAC by ultrasound
What biopsy do we do if the FNAC is inconclusive?
Incisional biopsy.
Explain the TNM staging
T for tumor, N for lymph nodes, and M for metastasis
Explain the T, of TNM
T1 2cm, T2 greater than 2cm, T3, greater than 5cm
What is BCS?
The breast conservative surgery, means removal of the tumor, and a 2cm safety margin with Axillary LN removal
What does BCS precede, what do we do after BCS always
Radiotherapy
What is the BCS incision angle when tumor is in the upper aspect of the breast
Cervi-linear
What is the BCS incision angle when tumor is in the lower aspect of the breas
Radial incision
Indications of BCS/T?
Tumor bigger than 4cm and big breast generally.
A sentinel lymph node is the first lymph node to receive drainage from cancer, if a blue dye SLN test is positive what does that mean?
Means cancer is there, hence we do axillary dissection.
What if a blue dye SNL test is negative?
No axillary dissection to be done, seeing as there’s no cancer drained.
What’s a modified radical mastectomy?
The removal of the entire breast.
What is the difference between a simple and modified radical mastectomy?
In simple we don’t remove all the lymph nodes, in radical we do
