Q

What is MIcrosoft Edge?

A

Microsoft Edge is the most recent web browser released by the company. Even though Internet Explorer was included in the operating system, most users preferred to use other browsers. Edge was released in 2015 to improve the user experience given by Internet Explorer.

They enhanced the browser’s appeal by adding many features and taking steps to improve security.

It now runs on Chromium, allowing extensions designed for the Chrome browser to work. Screen readers, games, ad blockers, and security features are all available for users to customize their browsers.

A consistent user experience may be simply deployed in a matter of seconds to a browser on a separate computer using the Microsoft account. The browser’s performance has also been improved, making it more comparable to Chrome and Firefox.

Q

What people can see about my browsing: InPrivate?

A

Microsoft Edge will delete your browsing history, cookies, and site data, as well as passwords, addresses, and form data, when you close all InPrivate windows. Other people using this device won’t see your browsing activity, but your school, workplace, and internet service provider might still be able to access this data.

Your collections, favorites, and downloaded files will be saved, so you can access them next time you use Microsoft Edge. Changes to your collections and favorites will continue to sync across all your signed-in devices.

19
Q

How does InPrivate search with Microsoft Bing protect Me?

A

When a search query is submitted using InPrivate search, data that can be used to identify your account or device is removed. Bing will still provide local results based on your IP location, which can’t be traced back to your account or device. Links to sign in with your Microsoft Account won’t appear at the top of the page on Bing while using InPrivate search, and automatic sign in on Bing will be turned off.
Your InPrivate searches are never saved to Bing or Microsoft Edge browsing history and will never influence or appear in Bing search suggestions.

Where can I find InPrivate browser?

A

21
Q

Why is it suggested to Manage Browser Extensions?

A

Microsoft Edge can be customized with add-on extensions. They are programs that can be used to customize or add to Microsoft Edge features. Some of the most popular extensions are password managers, VPNs, Ad Blockers, shopping applications, and productivity applications. The Edge Add-ons webpage gives some premade filters like Editor’s picks, trending, get started, and themes or you can also pick a category. Although these extensions are handy, just like everything else, they can be used for nefarious purposes. Some extensions contain malware and hide in the extension stores appearing like a legitimate program.

Most extensions can collect data about the end-user, which can be sold. So, to improve security, extensions should only be installed from vetted sites.

If an installed extension requires additional permissions, there could be an issue. Good antivirus solutions in place can also help to mitigate these threats.

22
Q

Where can I find this?

A

Three Horizontol Lines > Extensions> Here you can add extensions via Edge Add-Ons

You can use extensions such as >

Ghostery - Privacy Ad Blocker

Keeper Password Manager & Digital Vault.

23
Q

Why should we work with Certificates in Microsoft Edge?

A

Microsoft Edge tells us if the sites we are going to are safe or not. If the site is safe, it has a padlock that can be clicked to view the X.509 certificate.

In general, you should not use sites that do not have certificates unless they are internal self-signed certificates meant only for your organization.

24
Q

How can you tell if the site is not secured?

A

It will show “Not Secure” next to the website url - This will show Secured with lock Icon in it

25
Q

How can you see verified certificate information?

A

Press on the lock icon> Click Show certificates> The Certificate dialog box is displayed.

On the General tab, you can view the following details:

The purpose of the certificate
Who issued the certificate
The valid date range
Click the Details tab.

26
Q

what information shows on the details tab on certificate dialogue box?

A

Explore this tab to see the information available. You can see the following:

Who issued the certificate
The valid date range
What encryption algorithm was used
The public key
Other key pieces of information about the build and validity of the certificate

27
Q

What information shows on the on Certificate Dialogue box Certificate Path Tab?

A

This Certification Path tab shows the steps and path the certificate went to become valid.

28
Q

What is Hashing?

A

Hashing is the process of putting a document or file through an algorithm that generates a unique collection of characters based on the data it contains. Because hashing is one-way, it cannot be utilized to figure out what text was used to make it.

Hashes for documents and files that you are downloading can be delivered via the site or via email and then compared using a hashing tool that uses this technology.

There are hashing tools available online, or your organization may have one built-in.

29
Q

What Doe Edge Smart Screening do?

A

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen helps you browse more safely in Microsoft Edge by:
Alerting you to suspicious web pages: As you browse the web, SmartScreen analyzes web pages and determines if they might be suspicious. If it finds a suspicious site, SmartScreen displays a warning page advising you to continue with caution and giving you an opportunity to provide feedback to Microsoft.

Defending against phishing and malicious sites: SmartScreen checks the sites you visit against a dynamic list of reported phishing and malicious software sites. If it finds a match, SmartScreen displays a warning that the site has been blocked for your safety.

Screening downloads: SmartScreen checks your downloads against a list of reported malicious software sites and programs known to be unsafe. If it finds a match, SmartScreen warns you that the download has been blocked for your safety. SmartScreen also checks your downloaded files against a list of well-known and popular downloads by Microsoft Edge users and warns you if your download is not on this list.

30
Q

How can I turn on Edge Smart Screen?
