Operational Procedures: Summarize environmental impacts and local environmental controls Flashcards
Summarize environmental impacts and local environmental controls
What does MSDS/SDS consist of?
Material safety data sheet (MSDS/SDS)
Proper battery disposal
Proper toner disposal
Proper disposal of other devices and assets
What do you need to consider on Temperature and Humidity level?
Temperature, humidity-level awareness, and proper ventilation – too dry air can make more static) - HAVAC / Climate control system
Location/equipment placement
Dust cleanup
Compressed air/vacuums
What do you need to consider for power surges and brown/black outs?
Power surges, brownouts, and blackouts
Battery backup
Online UPS – expensive – don’t last long but better protection
Offline UPS -
Surge suppressor
What does a surge protector do?
A surge suppressor protects against lightning strikes, voltage spikes, and surges from when the power comes back on after an outage. A multi-outlet power strip may or may not have a surge suppressor built into it, so exercise caution when choosing a power strip.Surge protectors lose effectiveness with use, especially if they are subject to repeated surges. You should consult the manufacturer’s website to determine the number of years for which surge protection is warrantied, and replace surge protectors on a regular basis.
What does a UPS do?
A universal power supply (UPS), or a series of such devices, should provide enough temporary power to allow for an orderly shutdown of machines. They are not designed to be long-term sources of power like generators. It is important to buy a UPS with sufficient capacity for your needs. While a UPS may include some secondary surge protection, they should not be considered as primary surge protection.
Account recovery procedures will allow you to restore a user’s Windows or domain account.
You could back up critical applications as a subset of an image-level backup. You should always have a backup of your critical applications, preferably individually as opposed to a group, so that you can quickly restore a crashed application. Critical applications should already be addressed in a disaster recovery plan.
How do you dispose of old Ni-Cad Batteries?
Old and unusable Ni-cad batteries should be given to a hazardous waste disposal facility. Old and unusable Ni-cad batteries are considered hazardous waste. Therefore, care must be taken while disposing these batteries. These batteries should either be given to the waste disposal facility or be handed over to the supplier. Both a waste disposal facility and the supplier will ensure that these batteries are properly recycled.
Whare are considered Hazardous and must be disposed of accordingly?
For the A+ exam, you must understand that the following are considered hazardous and must be disposed of according to local, state, and federal guidelines:
Batteries
Toner
Cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors
Cell phones
Tablets
