What five things must a registrant do when an individual is not legally capable of giving informed consent?
1) any necessary documentation to determine that identity of all parties with legal entitlement to provide or withhold consent for services
2) obtain informed written consent from all the parties specified in part 1) above
3) provide an appropriate and understandable explanation of the services to the individual
4) when possible, obtain the individual’s assent to the procedures or interventions
5) document that explanation and any consents and assents in the registrants practice record
In regards to informed consent and family law proceedings, subject to any court order or court direction, registrant, providing psychological services to parents or children for the purposes of the family law, proceeding, including such as services as custody and access assessments must do two things prior to providing the services?
1) determine any issues of custody and parental rights or status prior to or as part of obtaining informed consent from all appropriate persons
2) obtain in document all necessary consents prior to proceeding with the services
What must the registrant do before altering the treatment plan or changing any psychological services that they have agreed to provide to a client?
Must obtain informed consent of any alterations to the treatment plan or services
In terms of structuring the relationship, what four points must the registrant discuss with a client early on as possible in the professional relationship?

1) the nature and anticipated course of the intervention or assessment,

What two things must a registrant ensure when they are supervising anyone providing psychological services and what must they do in terms of consent?
Must ensure that the client (and the payer) is informed of the supervise status and the name of the supervisor
Most ensure the client and the payer has provided informed consent for the supervised services prior to the initiation of those services
Informed consents must be documented in the registrants practice record
What must registrant do in terms of innovative services and applications for example, if there’s possible, increase risk of confidentiality breach, access limitations imposed, by the contemplated technology associated with psychology services
Must inform clients of the innovative nature of any proposed psychological service or technique, or any non-standardized application of a standardized service or technique, and the known risks associated with the service or technique and or it’s not in standard application, including any no or anticipated risks associated with the method service delivery delivery.
I.e. when using any new and/or non-standardized application must review any known or anticipated risks using this method
What must a registrant do in in terms of avoiding misunderstandings?
Must make reasonable efforts to answer clients questions, and to avoid any apparent misunderstandings about the psychological services to be performed
What must registrants do in terms of using understandable language?
Whenever possible when providing information, orally or in writing registrant must use language that is reasonably understandable to the client. remember that most clients need things written at a grade 8 level or lower.
What must a registrant ensure that each participant in an assessment process is informed of?
