In terms of fees, what are a registrants three general obligations?
1) respect the clients’ right to know what fees and charges will be charged
2) reasonable fees, and charges
3) collect these fees, and charges with consideration for the welfare of the client
What two things must a registrant do at the commencement of providing information, information of professional services in regard to fees?
1) ensure that full information is provided to the client about financial arrangements, including but not limited to fee structure missed appointments, interest on overdue accounts, and bill collection
2) not mislead or withhold from the client, a prospective client, or a third-party a pair any information about the cost of the registrants professional services
What must a registrant base their fees on?
A registrant must base their fees on the amount of time spend in rendering professional services to the client on the nature and complexity of the services rendered, and on the cost associated with providing such services
What must a registrant not based their fees upon?
A registrant must not base their fees upon the likelihood of material or other benefits occurring to the client as a result of professional services rendered
What is the codes rule regarding credit cards for fees?
I registered was not require the use of a credit card for payment for professional services
What may a registrant do in terms of interest on overdue accounts?
A registrant may charge interest on an overdue account for professional surfaces if the client is appropriately informed in advance as to the amount and method of calculating the interest
The amount of time given by a registrant for interest fee payment must be guided by what?
Must be guided by the circumstances, and the rate of interest charge must be consistent with current professional practises
What does the code state about prepayment for services?
A registrant must not require prepayment for professional services.
No prepayment is allowed.
Although a registrant must not require prepayment for professional services what is the exception to this?
The exception is, if the client and the registrant agree that the registrant may hold a retainer and trust, but must only apply such trust funds to the payment of agreed fees, and charges for professional services rendered
What does the code state about withholding records?
Except as otherwise provided by law, a registrant must not withhold records under their control when they are requested and imminent needed for a clients treatment. If the reason for withholding them is solely because payment has not been received for professional services rendered to the client.
In short, cannot withhold report information if client has paid for services in full
Although registrants are not allowed to withhold information, what is the exception to this?
A registrant may withhold psychological reports due to the clients further to pay for professional services rendered if the client was advised before the beginning of an assessment, or before preparation of treatment and report that payment in full was required before the report would be released
What two things does the code state in terms of no payment for referral?
1) a registrant must not give a commission rebate or remuneration to a person who has referred client to the registrant
2) a registrant, must not accept a commission rebate or remuneration from a person to whom the registrant has referred to client
What does the code state in terms of reasonableness and fees?
A registrant must not point any client or third-party pair by changing a fee that is excessive for the professional services performed, or by entering into an exploitive bartering arrangement in place of a fee
Barter is the acceptance of good services or other non-monetary remuneration from clients in return for psychological services.
Registrants may barter only under what two conditions?
1) it is not clinically contraindicated, and
2) the resulting arrangement is not exploitative to the client
What does the code state in terms of accurate fee reports?
In a report to third-party pairs for professional services, or to the sources of research funding, a registration must accurately state the nature of the service or research, provided the fees or charges, and applicable the identity of the service provider the findings and the diagnosis
