Secondary active transport Flashcards
What happens during secondary active transport?
A single ATP indirectly moves more than one substance across the cell membrane
The ATP creates a gradient for one substance. What happens as it flows back?
As it flows back with the gradient it carries another substance with
it
There are 2 types of secondary active transport?
Symport and Antiport
What happens with symport
Two transported substances move in the same direction
What happens during antiport?
Antiport moves substances in opposite directions
What is another types of active transport?
Vesicular transport
Another type of active transport where large
macromolecules and fluid are transported.
vesicular transpor
Two types of vesicular transport
Exocytosis & Endocytosis
Engulfment of materials from environment *pinocytosis
*phagocytosis
enodytosis
Releasing material into the
environment *debris/waste
*hormones
exocytosis
The passive uptake of a substance by a cell type exhibits saturation, a point where the rate of uptake can not be increased. What type of cellular transport is most likely?
Facilitated transport. Uptake is totally dependent on the number of transport proteins in the cell membrane.
