Flammable Liquids Response (Tanker)
Pre- Arrival

A

-Proceed to the unit and mark ENROUTE
-Make a PPE declaration & advise crew of response channel
-Change the unit’s & my personal radio to the correct channel
-Advise driver not to move until all are wearing appropriate PPE, are seat belted & compartments are closed.
-Provide turn-by-turn directions to the driver using FDSU & map books.
-Delegate usage of the I PAD to left bucket to find structure specifics & alternate routes of travel
-Communicate Primary Water Supply to the 2nd due in Engine
-Review specific incident’s roles, responsibilities & tool compliment with my crew.
-Consider additional resources based on location & CAD supplements.
-Discuss positioning options with my driver based on road specifics and response routes for all other units.
- On arrival communicate to driver the location of hydrants.
-Position at least 500’ away and use binoculars to assess the scene.

-Determine a staging area and initial assignments to the incoming units

Situation Report
▪ Communicate a situation report.
▪ Complete an effective size-up, trying to visualize as much of the incident as possible using a six-sided approach.
▪ Determine location, number, and condition of victims.
▪Gather information from witnesses.
▪ Establish operational zones & mark the water/ice level to determine if water is moving.
▪ Request additional and specialized resources needed to accomplish the objectives
▪ Perform a risk benefit analysis to ensure subsequent actions and decisions are based on good judgment, experience, and training – not compassion.
▪ Locate, name & establish command on an alternate channel; Assign a passport drop off.
▪ Provide direction for incoming resources to maximize efficiency for the incident objectives.
▪ Maintain personnel accountability

Incident Mitigation

Incident Mitigation
▪ Ensure no personnel is in the Hot Zone while wearing structural firefighting gear.
▪ Ensure all responders are in proper PPE and flotation devices.
▪ Conduct upstream and downstream recon to identify hazards.
▪ Maintain awareness of the hazards in and around the incident location.
▪ Position spotters & safeties.
▪ If a pet is located on the ice every effort should be made to attempt a rescue to prevent bystanders/family from entering IDLH.

Elevator Emergencies (Stalled Elevator with Trapped Occupants)

On Scene & Mitigation

A

-Ensure all responders are wearing appropriate PPE to include helmets, eye protection, lights, radios, gloves & lifeline.
-Bring Knox box keys & obtain elevator keys if available
-Identify the type of elevator (traction, belted, hydraulic)
-Locate the position of the stalled car relevant to the hoist way opening
-Determine the condition of the occupants. Make contact & reassure them.
-Encourage occupants to self-rescue if safe & possible
-Activate elevators in Phase I to attempt recall.
-Send FF with radio to machine room to standby
-Determine the car number.
-Ensure car is not moving:
-If car movement is present & no emergency exist, you must await elevator mechanic
-Once elevator car has stopped moving, the power may be secured & the occupants removed.
-Turn off & immediately on power to attempt recall.
-Shut down & secure power to stalled elevator
-Assist occupants out of stalled car
-Treat & transport injured.
-Secure the scene
-Place OOS sign on elevator
-Advise to keep OOS until serviced by qualified mechanic
-Secure elevator machine room
-Place FD Action tag on elevator power switch
