Scene 9 Flashcards
(Cherry Fair song)
It’s a fine thing, to fall in love before you die, especially if you die young. I fell in love with Peter Mathews at the Cherry Fair. I had to endure Thomas Corder first, though.
THOMAS: Maria. Hello. I’ve been um… looking for you
I live in the same house I always did, Thomas.
THOMAS: Perhaps we could… have a dance?
Am I being tested for lunacy?
THOMAS: No. I’m sorry. I just-
I am already engaged to dance with another gentleman. So, no, I cannot dance with you.
THOMAS: A gentleman? Who?
If you must know, Mr. Mathews.
THOMAS: Lady Cooke’s brother! He has an income of five hundred a year!
Well, he and I are friends.
THOMAS: Mr. Matthews! Over here!
No - don’t call him over -
THOMAS: Well - thank you for taking her on.
Oh, yes. You are both all kindness.
PETER: Miss Marten - may I hold you to your promise of a dance?
No, thank you, I shall dance on my own.
