Scapula Osteology Flashcards
Spine
Most posterior portion of the scapula. Connects the medial border of the scapula to the acromion process. Superior to the infraspinous fossa and inferior to the supraspinous fossa.
Acromion Process
Most superior and lateral projection of the scapula. Projects superiorly to the humerus and glenoid cavity.
Coracoid Process
Projection of the scapula that shoots out anteriorly from the scapula. Distal end of the projection sits anterior to the glenoid cavity.
Glenoid Cavity (fossa)
Point of articulation with the humerus. Sits inferior to the acromion process and posterior to the coracoid process.
Supraglenoid Tubercle
Rounded edge on the superior aspect of the glenoid.
Infraglenoid Tubercle
Rounded edge on the inferior aspect of the glenoid.
Lateral Border
The lateral edge of the scapula, inferior to the glenoid cavity and acromion process.
Supraspinous fossa
Surface superior to the scapula spine on the posterior side of the scapula
Infraspinous Fossa
Surface inferior to the scapula spine on the posterior side of the scapula.
Subscapular Fossa
Large surface on the anterior side of the scapula, medial and inferior to the glenoid cavity and coracoid process.
Inferior Angle
The most inferior aspect of the scapula.
Superior Angle
The most medial and superior aspect of the scapula.
Medial Border
The most medial side of the scapula. Connects the superior angle and the inferior angle.
