Brachial Anatomy Flashcards
R. and L. Deltoid
Muscle that runs over the shoulder. Inserts on the deltoid tuberosity.
R. and L. Pectoralis Minor
Muscle that runs from ribs 3-5 to the superior surface of the coracoid process
R. and L. Biceps Brachii (long and short heads)
Short head originates on the acromion process, long head on the supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula. Insert on the radial tuberosity and bicipital aponeurosis. Flexes and supinates.
R. and L. Coracobrachialis
Muscle that originates on the scapula and inserts on the humerus in line with the lesser tubercle. Flexes and adducts.
Brachioradiallis
Originates on the humerus and inserts on the radius
Brachialis
Originates on the distal half of the humerus and inserts on the ulnar tuberosity.
Bicipital Aponeurosis
Flat sheet of connective tissue that runs over the cubital region.
R. and L. Radial Nerve
Nerve that runs down the lateral side of the arm and innervates the radial side. Branch off of the posterior cord.
R. and L. Ulnar Nerve
Nerve that runs down the medial side of the arm. Branch off of the medial cord.
R. and L. Axillary Nerve
Nerve that innervates that axillary region, including the deltoid. Branch off of the posterior cord.
R. and L. Median Nerve
Nerve that innervates the palm and runs through the carpal tunnel. Formed from both the lateral and medial cords.
R. and L. Musculocutaneous Nerve
Nerve that innervates the coracobrachiallis and biceps brachii.
R. and L. Medial Cutaneous Nerve
Thin branch off of the medial cord. Senses on the medial portion of the arm.
R. and L. Brachial Artery
Artery that runs down the medial side of the arm along the biceps brachii muscle.
R. and L. Deep Brachial Artery
Branches off the brachial artery near the middle of the humerus. Splits into radial and middle collateral arteries.
R. and L. Superior Ulnar Collateral Artery
Superior branch off of the brachial artery that vascularizes the medial arm.
R. and L. Inferior Ulnar Collateral Artery
Inferior branch off of the brachial artery that vascularizes the medial arm.
R. and L. Basilic Vein
Vein that runs down the medial side of the arm both proximally and distally to the elbow. Joins the axillary vein.
R. and L. Cephalic Vein
Vein that runs down the lateral side of the arm. Runs up the entire arm, between pectorals major and the deltoid, and joins the axillary vein.
R. and L. Brachial Vein
Runs the length of the arm, dives deep after branching with basilic vein
R. and L. Median Cubital Vein
Vein junction that connects the basilic vein to the cubital vein medially to laterally. Used to inject substances.
Anterior Deltoid
Originates on lateral third of clavicle, flexes shoulder
Middle Deltoid
Originates on the acromion process. Abducts shoulder.
Posterior Deltoid
Originates on the scapula spine. Extends shoulder.
Anterior Circumflex Humeral Artery
Artery that branches off the brachial artery and goes around the surgical neck of the humerus.
