Sanctification (Christ as Sanctifier) Flashcards
Define Sanctification
Sanctification relates to our position in Christ and is the process by which we can live a spirit filled life.
Set apart from sin/death…set apart to God
(Romans 8:9-“You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh, but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.”
What is the relationship between justification and sanctification?
Justification is the legal standing. It starts sanctification.
Sanctification is that active process you engage in to live out that transformation…live out your new man.
What is the relationship between regeneration and sanctification?
Regeneration is birth…or new life
2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old one has gone, the new is here!”
Sanctification is growth and transformation
2 Corinthians 3:18-“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed inot his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
In what way is progression connected with experiential sanctification?
Essentially they are the same.
It’s how our regenerated life unfolds as we seek to be more like Jesus.
Galatians 2:20-“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
1 Thessalonians 5:23-“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole Spirit, soul, and body be kpet blmeless at the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ.”
In what way is the believer dead to sin and alive to God?
We are dead to sin and made alive and new through the resurrection of Jesus-
Romans 6:4-“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead throught the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”
What is the practical significance of sanctification in the Christ-follower’s life style?
We are able to realize our full potential in Christ; fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-26
Live out our potential within the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12
What is meant by positional sanctification and progressive sanctification; and how is crisis connected to the two?
Position-set apart-conversion…our position in the body of Christ
-(Romans 8:9-“You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh, but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.”
Crisis-a complete realization that we must rely on Christ. Moves us from positional to progressive…multiple crisis’ throughout experience
Romans 7:24-25-“What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thats be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!”
Progressive-ongoing work of the spirit to make us more and more like Christ-Romans 6
What does the scriptural phrase dead to sin and alive to God mean?
