Person of God Flashcards
How does Scripture describe God?
Light: John 1:5-“The Light shines in darkness, and the darkness will not overcome it.”

What is the basis for the Christian belief that God is a person?
God has will, emotion, intellect, and is personal

Matthew 6:10 your kingdome come, your will be done (will)
Luke 22:42-Father if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done (will and emotion)
John 11:35 Jesus wept (emotion and personal) his emotion was at least in part a result of the relationship that he had with Lazarus, Mary and Martha.
Genesis 6 God talking to Noah (personal)
Name some attributes of God and give some scriptural evidence
Psalm 139: all knowing; ever present; Creator, light
Job 38: God’s line of questioning to Job shows him to be all powerful
Holy: 1 Peter 1:16-for it is written Be Holy as I am Holy.

Acts 17:24-28:
Creator: 24: Then God who made the world and everything in it
Lord: 24 is the Lord of Heaven and Earth
Source of life and Sustainer: 25 He himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else
Explain the meaning of holy in reference to God and explain why it underlies all else in the character of God.
Holy- “set apart” He is wholly different and perfect and complete God is the complete contrast of sin
Rev. 4:8- we see him set apart from the rest of creation, and worshipped “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty, who was and is and is to come.”
He is completely separate from sin (no darkness at all) 1: John 5-“God is light and there is no darkness in him at all.”
All other attributes are guided by his holiness and no other attribute will ever cancel out his holliness
