Justification and Regeneration Flashcards
Define and contrast justification and regeneration, and give a brief explanation of the teaching Scripture on the two.
Justification: just as if I never sinned.
Pardoned by Christ’s substitution atonement; his blood (Romans 4:23-25-“The words it was credited to him were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness-for us who believe in him woh raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.”
justified by faith, not works (Galatians 2:16-“Know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by fiath in Jesus Christ. So we to ohave put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, becuase by works of the law no one will be justified.”
Regeneration: being born again (John 3)... new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17-"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old one has gone, the new is here!"
Who performs the work of regeneration?
Holy Spirit- Titus 3:5-“he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit…”
What is the nature of the change brought about by regeneration?
We are a new creation. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old one has gone, the new is here!”
What is the continuing purpose of regeneration in one’s personal life?
For God to complete the good work he started. Philippians 1:6-“being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion, until the day of Christ Jesus.”
and Philipplians 2:13-“for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”
