Q

How is the personal nature of he Holy Spirit demonstrated in the Old and New Testaments?

A
Early Church (NT): Available to all believers:
-Acts 2-The Holy Spirit is received at Pentecost-Peter is empowered to address Jewish believers, who believe, are baptized and receive the Holy Spirit:

Acts 2:37-38 “When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter, and the other Apostles, Brothers what shall we do? Peter replied repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 5: The Holy Spirit had a relationship with Ananias and Sapphira-Acts 5:3- “Then Peter said, Ananias how is that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?”

OT: The Spirit was more selective in the OT
-Spirit in Joshua-Numbers 27:18-“So the Lord said to Moses Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership and lay your hand on him.

  • Upon David-1 Samuel 16:13-“So Samuel took the horn of oil ad anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David.”
  • Sampson-Judges 13:24-25-“The woman gave birth to a boy and named him Sampson. He grew and the Lord blessed him and the Spirit of the Lord began to stir in him…”
