What do different denominations believe about how salvation is achieved?

A
  1. Catholic and Orthodox Christians believe that they received Jesus’ salvation by receiving the sacraments like baptism and the Eucharist and by leading a Christian life.
  2. Evangelical Protestants believe salvation comes through a personal acceptance as Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
  3. Liberal Protestants believe that salvation comes through living a Christian life.

  1. Roman Catholics believe that Christ sacrificed himself as an act of love (Christ’s passion).
  2. Evangelical Protestants believe that God’s justice meant that he needed to punish human sin, but Jesus took on the punishment. Penal substitution theory.
  3. Liberal Protestants believe that atonement came through the teachings that Jesus brought to humanity, this showed God’s love for humanity.
