Christian Eschatology Flashcards
What is eschatology?
Refers to religious beliefs about death, judgement and life after death.
What is the immortality of the soul?
The idea that the soul lives on after the death of the body.
What is purgatory?
A place where Catholic Christians believe souls go after death to be purified.
What are the different beliefs about life after death?
Others believe in the immortality of the soul and that your soul gets a second chance to get to heaven and that hell is not a real place but a separation from God.
Catholics believe that the perfectly purified will go to heaven, evil people will go to hell and people with unforgiven sins go to purgatory.
Why don’t Protestants believe in purgatory?
It is not mentioned in the Bible.
What are some SOWAAs to support life after death?
St Paul says that the dead will be raised at the end of the world and in the Parable of the Sheep and Goats Jesus says that God will sort the good from the bad and send the good to heaven and the bad to hell.
What is the importance of life after death for Christians?
- They think what they believe and how they will live will determine their lives after death.
- They think that sins will stop them from going to heaven, so they will avoid sins.
- Beliefs in life after death give them meaning.
