What objects can go into the trash?
Any objects that weren’t in contact with bodily fluids
- gloves, alcohol swabs, needle wrappers
sharps: anything that is sharp (needle etc)
Where should the sharps container be during your injection
within reach on the same side of the body as your dominant arm

type of bodily fluid involved
health status of pt
depth of injury
immune status of HCP
Steps to take when get needle injury
- allow wound to bleed freely (no pressure)
- clean with water + soap
- report injury to supervisor
- go to ED right away: might get preventive therapy for HIV (based on risk)
——- best to start therapy within 2 hours of injury + finish it within 72 hrs
** if not hep B immmune: may get hep B Ig for ST protection
How long generally does a pt need to stay after needle?
15 mins to monitor for ADRs
How long should the pt stay after injection if you have concerns about rx?
30 mins
