What are the three levels of government in charge of immunization system
National: public health agency of Canada
Provincial: ON ministry of Health
Municipal: regional PH
Responsibilities of national government in immunization
monitor national immunization coverage rate + rate of vaccine preventable disease
monitor AEs + outbreaks in different jurisdictions
Support NACI (group that updates immunization guide + makes recommendations for different pops)
Support CATMAT, international collab , national promotion of immunization
** funds from them ensure collaboration bw provinces occur to improve vaccination programs
Responsibilities of provincial government
plan, fund + deliver immunization programs (covered vaccines + schedules)
What is the Pan-Canadian PH network
network established by federal, provincial and territorial health ministers to work together on day to day business of PH
NAPRA Vaccine scheduling
determines which vaccines are schedule I (RX) or II (behind the counter)
What makes up schedule II vaccines
- vaccines that are part of routine immunization programs of most/all provinces
- vaccines required in special enhanced public access due to outbreaks
- cholera vaccine (oral + inactivated) when used prophylaxis against traveller’s diarrhea

What do immunization registries help with
help ID people who are due or overdue for immunization + generate recalls/reminders
— also a database for HCP to monitor immunization status for patients regardless of where vaccine was administered
— assists PH planning
Are there any other vaccine registries that exist in ON
CovaxON for COVID
— all other ones in ON exist at local/regional PH level ( no guarantee ability to transfer electronically bw registries)
How are immunization status recorded by waterloo region?
maintained by regional PH
- collects + maintains records as required by immunization school pupils act
—— others: not entered by HCPs but parents must do it
