critical periods
is a specific period in development
when an individual requires the presence of certain
environmental stimuli or experiences.
sensitive periods
during development are times when an individual is
more responsive to something in their environment at a greater level.
- the optimal developmental period for a specific function or skill to be learnt
maturation
a biologically programmed process of growth, which has a fixed sequence and facilitates all aspects of our development as we grow from conception into adulthood.

A balance between dependence on caregiver and independence to explore

insecure avoidant attachment
Infant does not seek closeness or contact with caregiver. infant avoids the caregiver.
Insecure Resistant Attachment
Infant is anxious when caregiver is near and also when they are separated from caregiver.
Insecure Disorganised Attachment
When caregiver shows
affection, infant pulls away, often showing fear and doing the opposite behaviour of the
caregiver.
