how to identify which Profile (LPR) records affect a user
- log in to Hyperspace as the user
- right‐click the application banner at the top right corner, beneath the Log Out button
–> this causes the Session Information report window to appear - expand the Profile Compilation section
how to identify which settings from each record will affect a user if given a set of Profile (LPR) records and where they are attached
the most specific profile level (user-level) will trump settings in any less specific profile
how to navigate a Profile (LPR) record in text
Text»_space; Clinical Administration»_space; Management Options»_space; Profiles (LPR)
open profile that needs to be edited
use menu to navigate to screens that need to be edited
how to configure the available reports and default report a user gets in the Patient Lists activity
Text»_space; Clinical Administration»_space; Management Options
» Profiles (LPR)»_space; open profile»_space; Patient Lists
default probably set at User-Specific level
available reports likely set by EpicCare Security Class Level
what controls options available in each Hyperspace activity?
Profile (LPR) records
security points/classes grant access to activities while LPR records change options users have within activities
how are Profile (LPR) settings different from and how do they interact with settings in Security Class (ECL) and Role (E2R) records?
security points/classes (ECL) records grant access to activities
- do you have access? Y/N
profile (LPR) records change options users have within activities
role (E2Y) records control which buttons are on your toolbar and your startup activities
what are the six different records to which you can attach a Profile (LPR) record to a group of users
User’s Template (most specific)
- Willow uses this level for settings specific to a group of pharmacy users and no one else, such as making the MAR read‐only for technicians
- this is technically referred to as a “User‐level” profile, because the template effectively causes the User (EMP) record to be linked to the profile
EpicCare Security Class
- Willow uses this level for settings that apply to all pharmacy staff by linking the EpicCare security classes used by Willow to a single profile, “Rx All Pharmacy
Security”
Login Department
- not used by Willow users, but is common for nurses/physicians
Location
- Willow users have profile specific to login location, which drives Available List in patient lists
- applies to everyone logging into the hospital
Service Area (NOT commonly used)
System Definitions (least specific)
- this profiles applies to ALL users in a system
how does Epic compile the settings in Profile (LPR) records that affect a given user?
when a user logs in, the system combines the settings from all attached Profile (LPR) records to create a compiled profile
PROFILE HIERARCHY = if the same field has a value in multiple profiles, the system takes the setting from the most specific level
how does Epic handle conflicting settings?
SECURITY TRUMPS PROFILES!
if you don’t have the security, you’ll never see or access the activity and the options within that activity are irrelevant
for example: techs share a profile setting with pharmacists that gives them the Database tab when entering orders.. but they don’t have the security point to access the Orders activity, so they’ll never actually see the Database tab
what needs to be done before changing profile (LPR) settings?
- what exactly needs to change
- who should (and should NOT) be affected by the change
- which Profile (LPR) record(s) you should edit, and how
–> from there you can edit the profile(s) in Text
