Q

alternative medication

A

while reconciling home medications for an admission, the goal is to continue with appropriate, formulary medications that can be ordered/dispensed in the inpatient setting

during this process, the system might display ALTERNATIVES, which guide clinicians to:
- select a more specific medication that includes drug, form, and strength
- select a formulary medication that is therapeutically similar

alternatives can be configured to allow providers to continue with the original order, and provide a reason

during verification, pharmacists can see if an alternative has been accepted, or rejected, and the reason if it was entered

Q

SmartGroup

A

order sets are organized into sections called SmartGroups

when you open an order set, some SmartGroups are required and others are not

SmartGroups can be expanded or collapsed by default

SmartGroups can also be nested within other SmartGroups, which allows for branching; rather than presenting all the potential orders, the right ones can be shown at the right time
