Chorioptic mange
Foot and leg mange - evident by pruritis, scaling and crust
distribution of choritopic mange
Cattle:
- perineum, tail head, scrotum, udder, sores between
Sheep/goats:
- pastern area, scrotum, back of legs - hypersensitivity
Treating choripotic mange
Topical soaks
Lime sulfur baths
Fipronil spay
Treat hypersensitivity with steroids and abx
Chlorhexidine scrubs
Demodectic mange
Not a problem, only cosmetic if presents
Nodules on face, neck, shoulders - cattle/goats
Sheep - eyes
Blow fly strike
Eggs laid and hatched from blow flies - near necrotic tissue
Usually associated with traumatized tissue/fecal staining
Treating blow flies
Clean, inj or topical avermectins, abx, NSAIDS
CONTROL diarrhea diseases & wounds
Hypoderma
Warbles or bot flies
Migrate from summer to fall
Clinical signs of hypoderma
Bulbs along dorsum
Yellowish serum may exude from breathing holes
Lesions may become infected - usually benign
Treating hypoderma
Grubicide prior to NOV 15 - avermectins moxidectin
Once lesion form - NOTHING
SCC
Cattle: ocular lesions
Sheep: crusty weeping thickened ears
Sanaan goats with udder papillomas
Goats - vulva, anus, udder, base of tail
Remove or treat w cryotherapy
Photosensitization
Increased sensitivity to sunburn due to ingestion of photodynamic agents
Phototoxic angents
Primary - plants, tetracyclines, sulfas, phenothiazine
2nd - hepatogenous - liver damage
- phylloerythrin
Clinical signs of Photosensitization
Bad intense sunburn in non pigmented areas
Sloughing of skin
Treating Photosensitization
Remove from sunlight
Sunblock
Treat underlying liver disease
Sunburn
Common in pigs esp white pigs or shorn sheep
