Cutaneous neoplasms
Epidermal neoplasms
- SCC
- papilloma
Adnexal neoplasms
Hair follicle tumors
Sebaceous gland tumors
Apocrine gland tumors
Dermal neoplasms
Soft tissue sarcoma
Feline vaccine associated sarcoma
Histiocytic neoplasms
Mast cell tumor
Lymphoma
Plasma cell tumors
Sarcoid
Lipoma
Vascular tumors
SCC
Malignant neoplasms of squamous Epi cells
Locally invasive, recur locally - occur from UV radiation
Papilloma
Exophytic papillary mass
PV infection - species specific
Common in YA & spontaneously regress
Papilloma in species
Cattle
- sites of abrasion, ears, head, neck, teats
Horses
- face, nose, lips
Goats
- udder
Sheep
- head, ears
Dogs
- solitary or multi
- head
Adnexal neoplasms
Hair follicle tumors
Sebaceous gland tumors
Apocrine gland tumors
Hair follicle tumors
Trichoblastoma
Pilomatricoma
Trichoepithelioma
Sebaceous gland tumors
Adenomas more common than adenocarcinoma
Perianal gland tumors
Apocrine gland tumors
Adenocarcinoma s more common than adenomas
Melanocytic neoplasms
Range from benign (melanocytoma) to malignant (melanoma)
Melanocytic neoplasms in dogs
Lesions on haired skin = more likely benign
Oral cavity/lip = more likely malignant
Melanomas in horses
Gray horses:
Benign melanomas = common
Arab, Lipizzaner, can argue, Percheron
Perineum, ^ age = increased in # tumors
Non gray:
Melanomas less common
More likely to be malignant
Soft tissue sarcoma
Group of mesenchymal neoplasms w biological behavior
- Fibrosarcoma
- perivascular wall tumor (hemangiopericytoma)
- peripheral nerve sheath tumor
Graded based on appearence of morphological features
Feline vaccine associated sarcoma
Highly malignant cutaneous associated w previous injection signs
Histocytic neoplasia
Benign: cutaneous histiocytoma
Common in dogs < 2yr, in langerhans cells
Malignant: histiocytic sarcoma
Progressive & multifocal disease, met to viscera
Mast cell tumors
Common in dogs, less in cats & horses
Tumor grading mast cell tumors in dogs
Low grade vs high grade
SubQ MCT = better prognosis than cutaneous MCT
Lymphoma
Cutaneous lymphoma = less common than visceral lymphoma
Epitheliotropic lymphoma
Bovine cutaneous lymphoma
Epitheliotropic lymphoma
Mycosis fungoides
T cell lymphoma is a progressive disease
Variable presentation
Lesions are depigmented, erythema, scaling and alopecia
Plasma cell tumor
Cutaneous plasma cell tumor
Typically affects dogs
Benign
Locations: haired skin & oral cavity
Sarcoid
Most common skin tumor of horses**
Neoplasm of fibroblasts
Can be caused by BPV 1& 2 - WONT metastasize
Recurrence is very common
Lipoma
Benign neoplasm of adipocytes
Very common in dogs
Complete excision usually curative
Vascular neoplasms
Hemangioma - benign
Hemangiosarcoma - malignant
