Rowframes Flashcards

Q

ROWFRAME ENGINE OPERATIONS

A

1) All interior hoselines will be considered 1 3/4” for speed, close
quarters, and mobility. An Engine company ordered to stretch a
hoseline to the top floor of an EXPOSURE for purposes of
extinguishing fire in the cockloft should take a six foot hook to pull
ceilings.

2) Brownstone type Rowframe: 1st floor fire

 A) 1st hoseline = stretch first line through the front door on the first
                             floor to extinguish the fire.

 B) 2nd hoseline = if not needed to backup the first hoseline shall be
stretched through the front door on the 2nd
(parlor) floor to maintain the integrity of the interior
                              stairs.

 C) Interior wooden stairs connect the first floor (basement) to the
second floor (parlor). If interior stair doors are present at the top
and/or bottom of these stairs, they shall be closed to control the
     flow path.

3) Floor designations at Brownstone & Brownstone type Rowframes

 A) 1st floor = referred to as first floor or basement

 B) 2nd floor = referred to as 2nd floor or parlor floor

4) Rowframe fully involved and fire in exposures (Holding Operation)

 A) 1st Engine to drop a 3 1/2" and an 1 3/4" line.
3 1/2" used to supply TL.
1 3/4" used to enter the building.

 B) 1st line stretched into fire building through front door.

 C) 2nd line to backup the first line, if not needed to backup the first
line it is stretched to the top floor of the most severe exposure.

 D) 3rd line - If 2nd line is backing up the first line, 3rd line is
stretched to the top floor of the most severe exposure. If
the 2nd line is stretched to the top floor of the most
severe exposure, the 3rd line is stretched to the top floor
                    of the opposite exposure.

 E) In both cases, the 2nd and 3rd line must be sure intermediate
floors are checked for fire while proceeding to the top floor.

5) Vacant Rowframes in a Row of Occupied Rowframes

 A) 1st Engine drops 2 hoselines, one 3 1/2" to supply a TL and a
hoseline 1 3/4" to enter the most severe exposure.

 B) 1st line is stretched to most severe exposure.

 C) 2nd line, if not needed to backup the first line, is stretched to the
fire building or to the opposite exposure.

 D) 3rd line stretched to the fire building or to the opposite exposure,
depending on where the 2nd hoseline was stretched.

 E) Occupied exposures should be given the first consideration and
all operations should be in that direction.

6) Vacant Buildings in a Row

 A) 1st Engine stretches a 3 1/2" line for a TL and stretches a
hoseline for use on the exterior of the building.

 B) 1st line initially operates from the exterior of the building until a
TL, multiversal, or a heavy caliber stream can be placed into
operation. This line is then stretched to the most severe
      exposure.

 C) 2nd line if not needed to backup the 1st line, stretch to opposite
exposure or through an exposure to the rear yard.
