RNA and Protein Synthesis Flashcards
why ate cells a big thing in the life of an organism?
because they are made of proteins and enzymes
what are proteins (enzymes) made up of?
amino acids
an amino acid is made up of …
three nitrogen bases (codon)
what are the nitrogen bases found on RNA?
adanine, uracil, guanine, and cytocine
what is the first step a cell will go through to make a protein?
the cell recieves a message that an enzyme is needed
what is the second step a cell will go through to make a protein?
the nucleus finds the code for the protein on the DNA molecule
what is the third step a cell will go through to make a protein?
DNA strands are seperated
what is the fourth step a cell will go through to make a protein?
the nucleus builds mRNA using nitrogen bases from the cytoplasm and the nitrogen bases enter the nucleus through nuclear pores
what is the fifth step a cell will go through to make a protein?
mRNA leaves the nucleus through nuclear pores
what is the sixth step a cell will go through to make a protein?
mRNA enters the ribosome, tRNA picks up amino acids in cytoplasm and brings amino acids to the ribosome
what is the seventh step a cell will go through to make a protein?
the ribosome and the code on mRNA that is translated into tRNA puts the correct amino acids togehter to form the needed protein
what is lysine?
a major part of the immune system
what is RNA?
only the code for protein synthesis
what is transcription?
a process that occurs in the nucleus when DNA formates into mRNA, thymine gets replaced with uracil and ends when mRNA is made
how do molecules communicate with each other?
thorugh shape, size and polarity
