Clinical judgement is the process by which a health care professional gathers a variety of information from a variety of sources to assist them in making a decision regarding the patient. Clinical judgement is gained through experience.

age, gender, race/ethnicity, language, education, role in family, substance usage
What type of information is found in the patient/client/medical history?
previous diagnoses, previous hospitalizations/surgeries/treatment, use of complementary/alternative medicine, medication history.
What type of information is found in the patient/client family history?
diagnoses, conditions, causes of death, alive and well
What type of information is found in the patient/client social history?
personal, financial, and environmental influences on food intake, food availability, nutrient needs, ability to address nutrient needs.
