A
The brainstem reticular formation (RF) represents the archaic core of those pathways connecting the spinal cord and the Thalamus. It subserves autonomic, motor, sensory, behavioral, cognitive, and mood-related functions.
Its a far-reaching network of neurons that connect with structures in medulla oblongata, midbrain, pins and diencephalon. They are interspersed between the cranial nerve nuclei and tracts . They appear as obvious grey matter with special staining.
