Viruses whos dominant clinical presentation is disease of the respiratory tract.
Give 2 clinical presentations of the respiratory virus.

Pharyngitis.
Common cold.
Croup (problem in children affecting the airway).

What are the three parts of the lower respiratory tract?
Trachea. Primary bronchi. Lungs.
What is meant by prodrome?

What virus can result in the common cold?
Rhinoviruses. Coronaviruses.
What virus can result in Croup?
Parainfluenza.
Influenza is a zoonosis, what does that mean?
It can be transferred from animals to humans.
What viruses are used to transfer influenza (of three types) from animals to humans?
Orthomyxoviruses.
What is cell tropism?
When cells of the host support the growth of the virus/bacteria.
