Where is HIV infection found?
Sub-saharan Africa.
What is the viral load?
It’s the RNA copies/ml.
What is acute seroconversion?
Period of time after acquiring HIV infection that antibodies develop.
Give 2 symptoms of acute HIV infection.
Fevers. Night sweats. Weight loss. Lymphadenopathy (disease of lymph nodes). Glandular-fever. Diarrhoea.
Give 3 differential diagnoses of HIV infection.
Flu. Rubella. Secondary syphilis. Toxoplasmosis.
What stage is AIDS?
Terminal stage of HIV infection - advanced disease with severe immunosuppression. CD4 count < 200.
Name 3 conditions associated with AIDS.
Candidiasis (fungi infection of oral and oesophageal). Cervical cancer. Tuberculosis. Lymphoma (infection of fighting cells of immune system). Toxoplasmosis (parasitic disease). Cryptococcal meningitis (infection of the brain and spinal cord).
