Q

What is the difference between rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthritis?

A

RA is a type of inflammatory arthritis where the majority of people will have
a positive rheumatoid factor and cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP). For this
reason, it is often referred to as seropositive arthritis.

The clinical conditions known as Spondyloarthritis (SpA), on the other hand, are types
of inflammatory arthritis where people do not have antibodies in their blood. For this
reason, spondyloarthritis is known as seronegative SpA or seronegative arthritis.

Q

What are the two types of spondyloarthritis?

A

Peripheral SpA e.g. psoriatic arthritis, enteropathic arthritis, reactive arthritis, juvenile onset SpA.

Q

What is meant by a pannus?

A

Pannus is an abnormal layer of fibrovascular tissue or granulation tissue. Common sites for pannus formation include over the cornea, over a joint surface (as seen in rheumatoid arthritis),

Q

What are the three types of psoriatic arthritis?

A

Polyarticular (involvement of many small joints in hands and feet).

Oligoarticular (affects a few large joints e.g. knees, ankles, elbows).
