Anti-asthmatic; anti-allergy for tx of rhinitis. SE: oropharyngeal candidiasis, dysphonia (have pt gargle after each use), bone loss. Inhaler. Strategies to prevent infection. Teach oral care & how to clean inhaler

Anti-asthmatic; Also Rhinocort Aq nasal anti-allergy for tx of rhinitis
SE: oropharyngeal candidiasis, dysphonia (have pt to gargle after each use), bone loss. Inhaler. Strategies to prevent infection. Teach oral care & how to clean inhaler

Class: Anti-inflammatory (corticosteroid)
Anti-asthmatic. SE: w/long term (systemic) use: adrenal suppression, osteoporosis, hyperglycemia, peptic ulcer, suppression of growth in children

Class: Anti-inflammatory (corticosteroid)
Anti-asthmatic; Also anti-allergy for tx of rhinitis. SE: H/A, fatigue, dyspepsia; possible á liver enzymes
Long acting PO, once a day dosing
Usually taken at bedtime.
G montelukast
B Singulair
Class: Anti-inflammatory (leukotriene modifier)
Anti-asthmatic (also NasalCrom anti-allergy for tx of rhinitis); Nasal spray for allergic rhinitis, inhaler for asthma prophylaxis. SE: Gen well tolerated, may cause cough; not for acute asthmatic attack.

Class: Anti-inflammatory (mast cell stabilizer)
Antitussive
SE: resp depression
Schedule II. Sched IV Combined with guaifenesin (Cheratussin)
Most effective antitussive; low abuse potential in antitussive mixtures.

Most effective non-opioid cough suppressant. SE: dizziness, sedation in high doses. Generally well tolerated

Beta2 agonist; anti-asthmatic; “rescue drug” (inhaler)
SE: nervousness, palpitations, increased BP. Short acting inhaler to relieve ongoing attack, prevent exercise induced attack; longer acting PO form.

Beta2 agonist; anti-asthmatic
SE: H/A, nervousness, palpitations; muscle cramps. Long acting inhaler (every 12H dosing); may be used along w/anti-inflammatory med.

Anti-asthmatic; Also a nasal form for allergic rhinitis tx Inhaler; rapid relief; reduces bronchospasms; also for COPD management. minimal systemic SE. Soy based so avoid if peanut allergy;
G ipratropium

Class: Bronchodilator; anticholinergic/ muscarinic blocker
Tx of rhinitis, sinusitis
SE: restlessness, insomnia; poss. drowsiness; palpitations, increase in BP. PO dosing
G pseudoephedrine
B Sudafed, others
Class: Decongestant, sympathomimetic
reduces viscosity, stimulates flow of respiratory tract secretions
SE: dizziness, H/A; nausea
Increase fluids to thin secretions & aid expectorant effect
Give w/full glass of water to â viscosity of secretions.
