• Confusion • Urea >7 mmol/L • RR >30/min • BP: systolic <90 or diastolic <60 Age >65 years
What a/b used for pneumonia
CURB-65 score:
1: oral amox
2: oral amox + clarith
>3: IV co-amoxiclav + clarith.
MRSA treated with vancomycin or linezolid
Which pneumonia pts should have repeat CXR after discharge, and when?
> 65 or smoker.
6 weeks after discharge
Clinical features of pneumonia
- fever
- cough w purulent sputum
- pleuritic pain
- SOB
- haemoptysis
What are signs of consolidation during examination
- Reduced chest expansion
- dull percussion
- increased vocal resonance
- bronchial breathing
Difference between bronchial and vesicular breathing
Vesicular breathing: normal, softer and lower pitched
Bronchial breathing: louder, indicates consolidation or pneumothorax or pleural effusion

- strep pneumonia
- chlamydia pneumonia & psitacci
- klebsiella pneumoniae
- mycoplasma pneumoniae
- haemophilus influenza
- legionella
