1
Q
What are some causes of narrow complex tachycardias
A
- Sinus tachycardia
- A fib
- A flutter
- SVT
- WPW
2
Q
What are some causes of broad complex tachycardias
A
- Ventricular tachycardia (including torsade des pointes)
- SVT
- WPW
- A fib
- Junctional tachycardia in acute MI
3
Q
What on an ECG might indicate ventricular tachycardia
A
- Broad complex tachycardia
- Left axis deviation
4
Q
What on an ECG might indicate A fib
A
-no P waves
5
Q
Causes of atrial fibrillation
A
- Hypertension
- Ischaemic heart disease
- Valve disease
- Pericardial disease
- Cardiomyopathies
- PE
- Infections, lung cancer, alcohol excess
- Hyperthyroidism
6
Q
Signs and symptoms of atrial fibrillation
A
- chest pain, palpitations, SOB, faintness
- irregularly irregular pulse, signs of LVF (eg pulmonary oedema)
May be asymptomatic
7
Q
Difference between ventricular tachycardia and supraventricular tachycardia
A
- VT is affects more severe than SVT
- VT is more spontaneous
- VT affects pts with cardiomyopathy or previous MI, whereas SVT affects young patients with no underlying cardiac disease
