Q

evaluate Social support as an explanation to resistence to SI

A

RTS - Asch

  • OG study all gave wrong answer conformity = 37%
  • Varied study 1 conf gave correct answer, conformity = 5.5%
  • Therefore supports SS as an expl suggests confederate provided confidence to remain independent and resist pressure to conform

RTS - Milgram

  • in varied study real ppt paired with 2 conf
  • conf refused to go on and withdrew from experiment early
  • in this variation the ppt who proceeded to go to the full 450v dropped to 10% from 65%
  • Therefore supports social support as an explanation to resistance to obedience bc it shows the real ppt has supprt more likely to resist obedience to the authority figure
