A
- refers to children spending a long period of time living outside of the family home within an institution. EG: orphanage
- can result in loss of identity

- extreme lack of sensitive responsiveness from a parent lead to child growing up unable to trust or love
- become selfish and isolated become sociopathic

- children select attachment figures indiscriminately behave in overly familiar fashion w complete strangers
- caused by long periods of instit care
- can have attention seeking behaviours

- delay in intellectual development, individual would have low IQ and problems with concentration
- may have difficulty learning new concepts
