Reproduction: Hormonal regulation of sperm production Flashcards
What does the hypothalamus do
It releases gonadotropin releasing hormone which stimulates the anterior pituitary gland
what does the anterior pituitary gland do
it releases FSH (which targets the sertoli cells) and LH (which target the interstitial cells) both stimulating cells in the testes
What do the sertoli cells do
they stimulate spermatogenesis and spermiogensis as well as secreting inhibit hormone
What does inhibit hormone do
it inhibits FSH secretion
What do the interstitial cells do
they produce testosterone
what does testosterone do
it stimulates bone and muscle growth, sex drive and seocondary sex characteristics. And inhibits the secretion of LH and the secretion of GNRH.
What are the effects of taking anabolic steroids
taking a testosterone mimic, your body will stop making as much testosterone and your testes will shrivel up because the interstitial cells no longer need to work…
