Oogenesis Flashcards
What is the first step of oogenesis
The oogonium (stem cell) goes through DNA replication [92]
What happens before birth to produce 2 million primordial follies, each w/ a primary oocyte
Mitosis to make the [92] chromosome cell into 2 [46].
1 Of them becomes the primary oocyte that we follow
The primary oocyte [46] goes through…
DNA replication first [92] and the meiosis 1 begins, but is arrested at prophase 1 (crossing over)
What begins to happen after puberty
Each month 4-5 primordial follicles begin to develop into primary follicles the thecae and granulose cells produce estrogen.
When is meiosis 1 finally completed
primary oocyte goes through meiosis 1 and ejects half the DNA into a small polar body so it now has [46] and is a secondary oocyte.
when is meiosis 2 completed
Not until after fertilization. Once the sperm DNA comes in, half the eggs DNA will be ejected into a small polar body.
