Components of bone Flashcards
name the cells in bones and where they are found
1) Osteogeneic cells: Divide and produce osteoblasts found in nutrient after, periosteum and endosteum
2) Osteoblasts- Build: Endosteum and periosteum
3) Osteoclasts- Remove: endosteum and periosteum
4) Osteocytes-maintain: found in lacunae
What type of tissue is periosteum
dense irreg
What is periosteum continuous with
Tendons and ligaments
What is Endosteum made of and where is it found
Delicate CT. Bone widening, repairing and remodelling. It lines spongy bone, medullary cavity, and central canals of osteons
Compact bone
Thin layer around exterior for strength and protection, thick layer around medullary cavity
Spongy bone
Trabeculae lined with endosteum. Reduce weight, protect marrow.
Differences between flat and long bones
Different location. Different ossification method. Doesn’t have epiphysial plate and line, doesn’t have medullary cavity or articular cartilage.
Where is the central canal and what does it have
Middle of osteon, lined with endosteum, passage for BC and nerves.
what are lamellae made of
calcium crystals and collagen
what is perforating canal
connects BV and nerves
Mircostructure of spongy bone
No osteons
has trabecular
no capillaries, osteocytes get nutrients from marrow
What layers would you pass through
Epidermis (Keratinized strat.) papillary (areolar) Reticular & adipose (dense ireg) Hypodermis (Areolar) Skeletal musc. periosteum compact spongy bone
